Caste system in India

Dear Readers I am surprise to see a lot of debate on caste system specially in Bihar. Presently I am in USA. You must accept that India has passed the phase at which USA is passing presently. People from all over the world are coming and settling down here. In the same way about2000-3000 may be more because of geophysical conditions in Gangetic belt was superb according to that time, people from every part of the world were attracted to our homeland as is happening with USA. The position obtained by a particular group totally depended upon there performance. Therfore it is immaterial telling some body is low and somebody is high. In fact all the INDOAERIAN Groups came from out side the India. Furthwer about Chanaky and Bhumihars if you are interested you should go through the book written by Great traveller and writer Rahul Sankrtityanyan who happened to be brahmin by birth but later changed to Budhist. He has very thoroughly mentioned about the cast system of India. As you know once upon the time almost 80% of Indian population was Budhist. AND THE BRAHMINS WHO COnverted to Budhist called Bhumihar brahmins and Kurmi are the people who converted from Kshatriya of that time. In the present time it should never be the matter of petty fights on these minor issues. History will tell every thing. Gopal

Dear freind, As you have mentioned about Rahul, I would like to refer his comment about Bhumihars. He was trying to associate Bhumihars with Mahavir too. His attempt was oppossed and even he was welcomed by garland of shoes by Bhumihars. He was trying to associate Jaithariya word which has emerged from Jaysthala but according to Rahul jee Jaither is very similar to Gatree, But later he realised that he was rong. When he wrote "Geography of Saran". He realised that Bhumihar and Brahmins are the same. Regarding another opinion that Bhumihar are those brahmins who were converted to Budhism by Ashoka 300BC.later they were brought back to Honduism by Sankaracharya on the fact that they are known as Babhans. And Babhans is a pali word. I do not subscribe this because then Brahmins in NEpal.Gujrat and Assam are also called as Babhan and they all will have to be converted brahmins. Bhumihar nomenclatare is recent. Dandi Swami Sahjananda Sarswati made it popular. Fact is Bhumihar are Ayachal Sainik high class brahimns

Hi, The word Jaitheriya bhumihar is famous and is acknowledged as an upper subcaste of Bhumihars.Infact, they were originally the resident of a village named Jaither in saran district near Masarakh. The Ganges flowed through this village when they had finally left this village to settle mostly in Muzzafarpur. There is a very interesting story related to this.I know this because I am a resident of this very same village, i.e Jaither. In our village we still have the relics and other religious stuff of the fled bhumihars after they honour killing of their women and children. If interested to know, you can email me.
