Lhoknga

Please, what happened to the compound that belongs to PT SAI (PT Semen Andalas Indonesia) situated in Lhoknga? I was living there between 1990 and 1992. In those years it belonged to the british company Blue Circle, now it belongs to the french Lafarge. What happened to the people of PT SAI? Can anybody tell me, please?

PT SAI - Lhoknga Compound

Dear Birgit, Just in case you haven't got the information: The compound housing in Lhoknga was badly hit by tsunami and left only it's swimming pool intact. All houses (including those were newly build on 1990s) were swept out by the giant wave. From total 130s people live there, employee & their families (all supervisory and above level employee) about 110 found dead or missing until now. Most people survived are because they were not there when the disaster occured. From total 611 employees of Lafarge, we recorded 421 people survived. Now PT SAI is starting to clean-up the plant and the harbor, then to rebuild/reconstruct the cement plant all over again, step-by-step. Hope this information could be usefull for you. My wife Clare and I worked for PT SAI for 4 years from '85 to 90 and we visited again in '93. We had many friends and have been unable to find any news. If anyone has any news, of our pembantu, Eka an her husband Arifin and children we would be very grateful to hear. Also many people who worked at the factory especially in the Prcess Control Dept - Yazidin, Hidayat and many others
